Trail Description

Barker Lake located in the Anaconda Mountains is a fairly easy out and back hike in the Anaconda. The trail starts out hiking on what seems like a recently logged lodgepole pine forest. After a mile or so, the trail opens to an excellent view of the surrounding mountains. Shortly after the view, the trail goes into denser forests. You will see a few split off trails, but continue on the one heading straight south. You will come upon a small creek crossing, and right after, you begin to pick up some elevation. The trail opens up to a very dry terrain. You will see the trail continues up a knoll, right behind this is Barker lake. We hiked this in winter and were able to see fresh moose sign and a rabbit!
