The Brownes Lake, Lake Agnes, Rainbow Lake Loop trail located in the Pioneer Mountains briefly starts out with a moderate incline. Not too long into the hike, the trail turns into a rather steep ascent to Lake Anges. A popular fishing spot – we continued onto Rainbow Lake which gains a little more elevation. You hike along a ridge that eventually flattens out. There is a well-marked split in the trail that directs you to Rainbow Lake. You’ll hike by some wetlands and before descending down to Rainbow Lake. If you follow the trail beyond Rainbow Lake, the trail meets up with Willow Creek Road. Follow this road northeast to where the road ends. You follow the trail down the mountainside with several brook crossings. This trail can be hard to follow sometimes – it did not seem like a maintained or popular trail to take. If you keep following it down to the valley you’ll eventually hit the Brownes Lake Trail. Follow this east and it will lead you back to Rock Creek Road. This will take you back towards the Brownes Lake trailhead. Rock Creek Road is cool because it is right at the base of a rock slide that continues rather steeply down into Brownes Lake.
