Trail Description
The Warren Pass Loop which includes Carpp Lakes in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness is a unique hike. The trail starts from the Carpp Creek Trailhead Parking lot. You take the trail south to Carpp Creek and will hit an intersection. You can begin either way, but we started out heading southeast toward Maloney Basin. The trail takes you through lush conifer forests and is very gradual hiking for the first few miles. We took in some mountain views from a large field before continuing onward. After about 3.5 miles you will start to hike through the burnt forest from the fire in 2017. We continued up towards Warren Pass and discovered several golden larches at the base of Warren. The trail was difficult to follow up the pass due to the forest fire. There are a few cairns, but just make sure you have a good idea of where the trail goes. Consider buying the Anaconda-Pintler Trial Map. Once on top of the pass, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains, and up at Warren. Continue down the trail to Upper Carpp Lake and further down towards Lower Carpp. The east section of Carpp Lake was not burnt by the fire, but it is the last short section before heading back into forest fire remains.
