Trail Description

Willard Creek Trail located in the Elkhorn Mountains is a very easy 2.4 mile out and back hike. You start out hiking through beautiful aspen tunnels. You will see many signs of mining throughout this hike with large mining pits/hills off to the sides. The trail passes through mostly open terrain and is just beside Willard Creek. Where Willard creek runs through looks like open wetlands. Towards the turnaround point, you pass through a brief batch of denser forests with one big switchback before the trail opens to a perfect picnic area. There are several picnic benches and you are right next to where Willard Creek merges with McClellan Creek. If you wanted to extend your hike from here you can do so by crossing the creek and choosing which direction to take.
